Dependent Visa (Non-O)

If you’re planning to live in Thailand with your spouse or family member working there, you’ll need the Thai Family Visa, officially called the Non-Immigrant O (Dependent) Visa. This visa allows dependents to stay in Thailand while their partner or parent works or studies.

1. Overview

The Family Visa is for:

  • Spouses and children of foreigners working in Thailand (Non-B Visa holders)

  • Family members of Thai nationals

  • Dependents of holders of Non-Immigrant ED or OA visas

2. Eligibility

Eligible applicants:

  • Spouses: Legally married (recognized by Thai law)

  • Children: Under 20, unmarried, living with family

  • Adopted children: Legal proof required

  • Parents: Over 50 and financially dependent

3. Visa Validity

  • Applied outside Thailand: 90-day validity (extendable)

  • Applied inside Thailand: Can be converted to a 1-year visa

  • Must report to Thai Immigration every 90 days.

4. Required Documents

For All Applicants:

  • Passport (valid for at least 6 months)

  • Completed visa application form (3 copies)

  • 3 passport photos

  • Evidence of relationship (e.g., marriage certificate)

  • Proof of residence in Thailand

  • Financial proof: minimum 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account

5. Application Process

From Outside Thailand:

  1. Apply at a Thai Embassy or Consulate.

  2. Include required documents and visa fee (approx. RM 320).

  3. Processing time: 5–10 working days.

Inside Thailand:

  1. Enter on a Tourist Visa or Visa Exemption.

  2. Visit Chaeng Wattana Immigration Office to convert to Non-Immigrant O.

  3. Submit supporting documents.

6. Renewal Process

  • Renew annually, no earlier than 30 days before expiry.

  • Must be present in Thailand during renewal.

7. Important Notes

  • Dependents cannot work; must switch to Non-B Visa for employment.

  • Divorce voids the visa; dependents must leave Thailand.

  • 90-day reports required to avoid fines.

8. Fees

  • Single-Entry (90 Days): 2,000 THB
